Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not
furnish employment and a place of
employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or
likely to cause death or serious
physical harm to employees:
(a)Date of Violation:On or about 05/27/10
Location:Right Side of Maintenance Shop
Condition:Employees replaced various types of automobile batteries,
containing corrosive sulfuric
acid, with an emergency eyewash station provided in excess of ten-second
travel time
to reach the eyewash station.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement to correct this
hazard is to comply with the
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z358.1, "Emergency Eye Wash
and Shower Equipment."
Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs,
training certification, etc.)
is required for this item.
