Condition:Employees scooped granular, corrosive calcium hypochlorite and
sodium carbonate
into day tanks to be dispensed into a potable water filtration system,
without being
provided with an eyewash station that was capable of providing at least 15
minutes of
continuous flushing water.
(b)Date of Violation:07/28/10
Location:Quality Control Laboratory in Main/Control Building
Condition:Employees used corrosive chemicals such as sulfuric and
hydrochloric acid to perform
various tests for water quality and to clean glassware, without being
provided with an
eyewash station that was capable of providing at least 15 minutes of
continuous
flushing water.
(c)Date of Violation:On or about 07/28/10
Location:Chemical Feed Station in Main/Control Building
Condition:Employees added polymer in the same room where corrosive poly
aluminum chloride
("DELPAC") was dispensed through a 60-gallon day tank, into the wastewater
treatment system, without being provided with an eyewash station that was
capable of
providing at least 15 minutes of continuous flushing water.
Among other feasible methods, one feasible and acceptable means of
abatement would be to comply with the
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z358.1, "Emergency Eye Wash
and Shower Equipment."
