furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that an employee
was exposed to entrapment in a freezer unit and potential hypothermia or
death:
Bally Walk-in Refrigeration Unit - On or about February 4, 2010 an
employee was
locked in the freezer unit for a period of 7 minutes and managed to escape
by using feet
to kick the locked door open.
One feasible and acceptable method of abatement is the removal of the
entire deadbolt lock
assembly from the freezer door so that no employee will be entrapped in
the freezer by an egress
door that is locked from the outside.
