Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:01/07/11 Location:Crystal Drying Room Equipment:Shop-built Burner with Baldor Industrial Motor, Serial #12-93, Spec. #33- 850-932 Condition:A natural gas fired burner was not equipped with an automatic safety valve to shut off the flow of gas to prevent an explosion in the event of a loss of flame. The burner was not secured to nor supported by a substantial base, and was unprotected from physical damage, such as being struck by an industrial truck. The flame of the burner, which was approximately 18 inches in length, an approximately 50 inches above the floor, was not sufficiently guarded to prevent accidental contact with the flame. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to modify the burner to meet mationally ecognized standard for the design and installation of gas fired burner, National Fire Protection Association Standard 86A, 1969 Ed., Standard for Oven and Furnaces Design, Location and Equipment. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item
