General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to electric shock hazards while lifting motor vehicle parts: a.On or about July 02, 2010, at the workplace in the Tool Room, employees used a Dayton 1/2 ton hoist, Serial Number JLC-250-PR that had damaged electrical wiring powering the hoist to lift transmissions and other vehicle parts weighing approximately 200 to 400 pounds. The insulation was pulled away from the power cord to the hoist exposing employees to electrical shock hazards. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow the guidelines in the american Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B30.16-2007, Overhead Hoists (Underhung), Section 16-2: Inspection, Testing and Maintenance as applicable.
