Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The employer failed to ensure that the printing presses were removed from service when deficiencies existed outside manufacturer guidelines. Press 98 and Press 88 continued daily operational processes when cracks were found in the dryer dampener; gaskets were brittle and worn; the thermocouple needed to be replaced; leakage was occurring; the burner was in need of replacement; and when other repairs and maintenance were needed. Employees performing press operations were exposed to a fire and/or explosion hazard. AMONG OTHER METHODS, A FEASIBLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO REMOVE THE UNITS FROM SERVICE AND MAKE ALL REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENTS PER MANUFACTURE RECOMMENDATIONS. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
