Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to self-propelled articulating boom and platform (aerial lift) tip over hazards: a)Front Wall: Two wheels on the Genie Z80/60 self-propelled articulating boom aerial lift were raised and supported by wooden planking while workers were inside of the platform basket approximately 60 feet high, on or about 11/29/2010. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: 1:Follow the Genie operator's manual safety rules; Do not raise or extend the boom unless the machine is on a firm, level surface. If the tilt alarm sounds: Do not extend, rotate or raise the boom above horizontal. Move the machine to a firm, level surface before raising the platform. 2:Use a lift with a leveling outrigger system.
