Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer does not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from the recognized hazard of being struck by falling equipment which are causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: This violation occurred on or about September 3, 2010, where employees were exposed to being struck by when the folding rig floor of Rig #590 was raised and suspended by the winch, but not locked into the raised position. Employees working under the suspended floor were exposed to a struck-by hazard. Among other feasible methods to correct the identified hazard, one method would be to prohibit employees from working under an elevated rig floor until the floor has been locked into the raised position. Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the date of this citation, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including the steps that it is taking to ensure that employees are protected from struck by hazards associated with raising and securing floors on well servicing rigs.
