Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The

furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from
recognized
hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm
to employees in
that employees were exposed to the hazard of chemical burns to the eyes
and face:
On or about January 12, 2011 the employer failed to inspect and maintain
the
self-contained emergency eyewash on an annual basis as required by ANSI
Z358.1 (2004) and the manufacturer's instructions.  Employee(s) charging
lead
batteries containing sulfuric acid (H2SO4) were exposed to the hazard of
chemical burns to the eyes and face.
One method of abatement, among others, would be to inspect and maintain
the unit in
accordance with ANSI Z358.1 (2004) and the manufacturers instructions.
