North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of North Carolina:  The
employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment
and a place of employment free
from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were exposed to: Caught by rotating parts.
a)Safe launch department at the shaft paint line - On or about 11/1/2010
an employee was
cleaning residual transferred paint off plunge joint housing parts with a
"Baldor" 8 inch bench
grinder fitted with a wire wheel brush without having their long hair
covered or contained to
prevent it from being caught by the downward rotating parts.
Abatement note: The employer has already accomplished the abatement by
changing out the
equipment with a self enclosed paint removing device and has amended
policy that addresses
the caught in hazards associated with having long hair.
