North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of North Carolina:  The
employer did not furnish to each of his employees  conditions of
employment and a place of employment free
from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees, in
that employees were exposed to:
a) At facility- in the farrowing and breeding houses, employees are
cleaning with hazardous
chemicals such as but not limited to: DCR disinfectant and Virkon S. The
employees are not
being protected by eye or face protection.
Reference; 29 CFR 1910.133(a)(1) OSHA, Standards for the General Industry:
The employer shall ensure that
each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when
exposed to eye or face hazards from
flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic
liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or
potentially injurious light radiation; for example, employees working with
corrosive chemicals without the
benefit of eye or face protection.
One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to
have employees use eye or face
protection when handling hazardous chemicals.

by an appropriate hand protection.

(a) General requirements.
Employers shall select and require employees to use appropriate hand
protection when employees' hands are
exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful
substances; severe cuts or lacerations;
severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful
temperature extremes.
One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to
have employees use gloves for hand
protection when handling hazardous chemicals.

working with hazardous
chemicals such as DCR disinfectant and Virkon S, are not being trained in
the use of personal
protective equipment.
Reference; 29 CFR 1910.132(f)(1)(i), (ii), (iv) and (v) OSHA, Standards
for the General Industry: The
employer did not provide training to each employee who is required by this
section to use PPE. Each
such employee was not  trained to know at least the following:
(i) When PPE is necessary;
(ii) What PPE is necessary;
(iii) How to properly don, doff, adjust, and wear PPE;
(iv) The limitations of the PPE; and
(v) The proper care, maintenance, useful life and disposal of the PPE.
One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to
train employees on personal
protective equipment when handling hazardous chemicals.
