General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm: On or about December 8, 2010; The employer did not ensure that periodic inspections, with dated reports, were performed on hoists throughout the facility at appropriate intervals. Hoists on jib cranes are used to move parts before or after being machined. The Jet 1 ton Hoist in the Blasting Area is used to lift parts into and out of a corrosive metal cleaner. Employees are exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling parts and materials. A recognized and feasible means of abatement to correct this hazard includes conducting periodic inspections on hoists throughout the facility, with written, dated reports, at the appropriate inspection interval.n
