On or about December 8, 2010; The employer did not ensure that periodic
inspections, with
dated reports, were performed on hoists throughout the facility at
appropriate intervals. Hoists
on jib cranes are used to move parts before or after being machined.  The
Jet 1 ton Hoist in the
Blasting Area is used to lift parts into and out of a corrosive metal
cleaner.  Employees are
exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling parts and materials.
A recognized and feasible means of abatement to correct this hazard
includes conducting periodic
inspections on hoists throughout the facility, with written, dated
reports, at the appropriate
inspection interval.n
