Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:09/16/10 Location:Bays 3, 5 and 6 Equipment:Rotary Vehicle Lifts Condition:Employees were allowed to operate lifts that had safety catches defeated on the left side. (b)Date of Violation:09/16/10 Location:Bay 3 Equipment:Rotary Vehicle Lift Condition:Employees were allowed to operate lift that had its overhead padded switch bar missing at the top. (c)Date of Violation:09/16/10 Location:Bay 5 Equipment:Rotary Vehicle Lift, rear right side arm. Condition:Employees were allowed to operate lift that had lift arm restraints that were missing. (d)Date of Violation:09/16/10 Location:Bays 5 and 7 Equipment:Rotary Vehicle Lift in Bay 5 on the left side arms and front right side arm, rotary vehicle lift on all four lift arms. Condition:Employees were allowed to operate lifts that had lift arm restraints that were not working. (e)Date of Violation:09/16/10 Location:Bays 5 and 7 Equipment:All four arms on rotary vehicle lift in Bay 5; both rear arms on rotary vehicle lift in Bay 7. Condition:Employees were allowed to operate lifts that had arm stop bolts that were missing or broken off from the second stage of the lift arms. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to reinvoke the catches on the lifts as referenced in ANSI/ALI ALIOM: 2008 Automotive Lift Institute Standard for Automotive Lifts sections 4.4.2.7 and 8. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
