Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees, in that employees
were exposed to struck and/or hit by vehicular traffic while performing
vehicle delivery off-
loading operations:
New Haven Road (Route 63), Southbound lane, Naugatuck, CT.
The employer did not ensure through providing appropriate training and
instruction that the
employees engaged in the above task was not only parking vehicles in a
proper manner and safe
location at all times, but also performing the task safely.
On or about 30 December 2010, an employee, unloading and delivering
vehicles to a local car
dealer from a improperly parked vehicle was struck by an automobile and
sustained severe
injuries from the incident.
Among others, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to:
1. Use of reflective triangles, cones, signs, or other warning devices in
the appropriate ways.
2. Provide appropriate training and instruction.
3. Use other alternative measures.ve
