Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling off of a ladder: LOCATION: Establishment, Service Area a) Employer did not train their employees in the rules for ladder use, thus exposing employees to struck-by and fall hazards on or about 11/23/11. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO FOLLOW THE ANSI-ASC A14.2-2007, RULES FOR LADDER USE, WHICH STATES THAT LADDERS SHALL NOT BE PLACED IN FRONT OF DOORS OPENING TOWARD THE LADDER UNLESS THE DOOR IS BLOCKED OPEN, LOCKED, OR GUARDED. NOTE: The employer is required to submit abatement certification for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.
