Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employer which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to amputation/crushing hazards: a) Production Area The employer did not provide employees with a mechanical device to push the last bread loaf through the slicer knives, thereby exposing employees to an amputation hazard. Violations observed on or about 12/16/2010. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement is to provide a tool that allow employees to push the last loaf through the knives in accordance with ANSI Z50.1-2006 for American National Standard for Bakery Equipment - Safety Requirements, Section 17.1.1 Slicing and Wafer Cutters.
