Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: (a)In the month of March, employees were changing light bulbs using a Husky 8' step ladder. The employees were standing on the top rung and/or black step of the step ladder exposing the employee to a fall hazard. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means to correct these hazards are to use a safer alternate method such as: Provide a taller self-supporting ladder for use by employees. Instruct the employees not to stand above the second to top rung of the step ladder as outlined in American National Standard for Ladders -- Portable Reinforced Plastic -- Safety Requirements ANSI-ASC A14.5-2007 Section 9.3.1 and 9.3.2. Certification, with date and method of abatement required. Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be submitted within ten (10) calendar days after the abatement date.ment
