Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by, tripping, amputation and caught between hazards while performing auto repairs without, adequate levels of illumination. TIRE SERVICE AREA: Employees operating tire changing and wheel balancing equipment were exposed to struck-by, tripping, amputation and caught between hazards while working, where adequate levels of illumination had not been provided. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are: 1. Replacement of burnt out or missing flourescent lamps. 2. Evaluation and purchase of appropriate task lighting. 3. Ensure that lighting meets minimum levels of illumination currently recommended under the American National Standards Practice for Industrial Lighting (ANSI Approved June 6, 1973) for automotive repairs in service garage facilities.
