Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer does not
furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment
which are free from
the recognized hazards of being struck by a pressurized hose which was
causing or likely to
cause death or serious physical harm to employees.
This violation occurred on or about February 8, 2011, by the air
compressor located
outside and south of building where an employee was struck by a Parker
water series
hose under air pressure that was clamped onto a 2" King Combination Nipple
(BST25)
fitting that was not intended for compressed air.
Among other feasible methods to correct the identified hazard, one method
would be to
install appropriate fittings intended for compressed air at specified
working pressure per
manufacturer guidelines.
Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the
abatement
date, the
employer must submit documentation describing the actions it is taking to
ensure that
fittings are used in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines.
