Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards: (a) Location - Car wash area: On or about 1/3/11, employees were exposed to struck-by hazards from automobiles as they were driven in and out of a high-volume car wash area in close proximity to an occupied automobile maintenance garage. Among other means, one acceptable method to abate this hazard is to: Cordon off/provide safety controls at car cleaning work areas; provide adequate segregation from car cleaning/washing processes and other unassociated processes; provide awareness training to all workers involved in car wash and auto maintenance; ensure all drivers have adequate credentials to operate motor vehicles (valid state operator's license).
