Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to the employees in that employees were exposed to chemical burn hazards and struck-by hazards: (a)SAR unit, DuPont facility: Employees used a 3 inch diameter hose, 25' in length, to transfer sulfuric acid from a Presvac Vacuum truck into a holding tank. The hose was not secured in place to prevent the hose from being expelled from the tank and employees sprayed with sulfuric acid, as determined on June 3, 2011. NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to secure discharge hose to prevent displacement.
