Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:06/22/11 Location:Pump Room Condition:The nozzles on a plumbed eyewash were dirty and clogged due to the protective covers not in place during periods of inactivity resulting in a flow pattern where the intersection of the water was approximately three feet above the sink when actuated where corrosive chemicals including, but not limited to, sodium hydroxide, were used to treat wastewater. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to repair and maintain the eyewash station in accordance with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z358.1-2009, Standard for Emergency Eyewashes and Shower Equipment. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
