Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by and crushing hazards from vehicular traffic: (a) Location - Danvers, MA: On or about 2/6/11, the employer failed to require the use of traffic control devices while employees performed maintenance tasks among moving vehicles. Among other means, one acceptable method to abate this hazard is to provide and require the use of traffic control devices to protect employees while performing maintenance activities including consideration of the following: Traffic cones, traffic directionals, caution tape, physical barriers, and personal spotter.
