Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in
that the width of the work
basket held aloft from a rough terrain forklift was greater than 10 inches
beyond the front wheel
base of the forklift creating a tipping hazard and exposing employees to a
fall from elevation.
On the Southeast side of the building, employees worked from a shop made
basket held
aloft by a JLG Rough Terrain Forklift and the basket extended more than 10
inches (per
side) beyond the tire width of the Forklift.  This condition exposed
employees to fall
hazards.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement methods to
correct this
hazard is to use a personal platform in which the width conforms to
American
National
Standards Institute (ASME) B56.6-2002, Safety Standard For Rough Terrain
Forklift
Trucks.
