Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not
furnish employment and a place of
employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or
likely to cause death or serious
physical harm to employees:
(a)Date of Violation:On or About 02/15/11
Location:Central Steam Plant, Chemical Storage Area
Condition:Employees cleaning floors with Grendier Plus, a corrosive
liquid, were not provided
with an emergency eyewash capable of at least 15 minutes of continuous,
hands-free
flushing.
(b)Date of Violation:03/14/11
Location:Wash Bay
Condition:An employee cleaning wheels with Wheel Brightener, a corrosive
liquid, was provided
a plumbed emergency eyewash that produced water at an injurious velocity
when
actuated.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate these
hazards is to install and maintain
eyewash stations according to the American National Standards Institute
(ANSI) publication, ANSI Z358.1-
2009.
Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs,
training certification, etc.)
is required for this item.
