General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing, or likely to cause, death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards: North wall of the shop, north end of the workplace, PVC pipe air pressure line: On or about April 6, 2011, and at other times prior thereto, the employer did not ensure that the shop compressed air line that operated at 100 psig was fabricated from materials approved for compressed air service. The PVC pipe air pressure line used by employees engaged in rental equipment or shop maintenance/repair activities extended from the shop compressor to the work station areas; with portions of the line installed along the floor at the base of the building wall. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use approved threaded steel piping and fittings to serve as the shop compressed air line.
