North Carolina General Statute 95.129 (01) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to carbon monoxide from a propane forklift operated indoors. (a) Blueberry grading/sorting/packing operation located at 4253 Fayetteville Road, Garland, NC 28441 - thirteen employees were taken to hospitals after being exposed to levels up to 278 ppm of carbon monoxide caused by operating a Komatsu FG15ST15 propane forklift indoors. Abatement Notice: One feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to follow all forklift manufacturer recommendations for safe operation and provide proper ventilation and carbon monoxide detection devices prior to operating a propane forklift indoors.
