Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to a burn hazard:
a.On or about January 12, 2012, in the lube bay pit an employee used a
spark
producing power tool where an explosive atmosphere had been created from
the
use of a flammable degreaser, exposing himself to a burn hazard.
Feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard, but not limited to
the
following:
Follow tool manufacturers instruction manual warnings do not operate power
tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable
liquids,
gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or
fumes.
Follow chemical manufacturers Material Safety Data Sheet hazard
identification
section 2 DANGER extremely flammable liquid and vapor, vapor may cause
flash
fire keep away from sources of ignition.
ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION ARE
NOT REQUIRED.TION
