Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to being struck by the discharged material.
a.On or about March 7, 2012, the MacPherson Strut Spring Compressor MST-
580A had a damaged adjustable hook arm making it unable to secure a spring
or
spring strut assembly while being compressed, exposing employees to the
hazard
of it being discharged from the equipment and striking employees.
b.On or about March 7, 2012, the Rim Clamp machine used for servicing
automotive wheels and tires was leaking air pressure making it unable to
restrain
the rim and tire assembly while being mounted or dismounted, exposing the
employees to the hazard of being struck by the rims, tires or handtools.
Feasible and acceptable methods of abatement to correct the hazard
include, but are not
limited to the following:
1.Adhere to the MacPherson Strut Spring manufacturer's safety guideline
identified
on page 2, third sentence of the operators handout that states, "Do not
use tool
if it is visible worn, distorted, or damaged."; and the Rim Clamp
manufacturer's
safety instructions identified on page iii, that states, "Allow unit
operation only
with all parts in place and operating safely".
2.Replace the damaged equipment.
ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION ARE NOT
REQUIRED.TION
