Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to:
Seccion 6(a) de la Ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico:
El patrono no
proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que esten
causando o que
puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados
estaban expuestos
a:
At the mechanic shop of Maara Corp. at Fajardo Landfill, it was observed
PVC pipes (3/4
diameter, Schedule 40) connected to an air compressor (trademark Ingersoll
Rand, serial
#1008040379, model 2340N5, NB 51037) and used to transport compressed air.
It was
documented that the employees connected air hose and tools such as: impact
gun (trademark
Chicago Pneumatic, model CP772H, serial #08205A, rated at 90 psi) to the
PVC pipe line for
truck repairs task.
Hazard: Employees were exposed to being struck by pieces of exploding PVC
pipe.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is
to replace the PVC pipe with black iron pipe.
En el taller de mecanica de Maara Corp., en el Vertedero de Fajardo, se
observo tubos PVC
(3/4 diametro, Schedule 40) conectados a un compresor de aire (marca
Ingersoll Rand, serie
#1008040379, modelo 2340N5, NB 51037) y usados para transportar aire
comprimido.  Se
documento que los empleados conectaban mangas de aire y herramientas tales
como pistolas de
impacto (marca Chicago Pneumatic, modelos CP772H, serie #08205A y presion
de 90 psi) a la
tuberia PVC para tareas de reparacion de camiones.
Riesgo: Los empleados estaban expuestos a hacer golpeados por los pedazos
de tuberia de PVC
en una explosion.
Entre otros metodos, un metodo viable y aceptable para corregir este
peligro consiste en
reemplazar la tuberia de PVC con una tuberia de hierro negro.

At mechanic shop of Maara Corp., in Fajardo Lanfill, where the employees
repairing trucks,
it was observed an over head crane (trademark Jet, 2tons/4000 pounds)
without a safety latch
in the sling chain hook.  The employees used over head crane to up or down
heavy truck parts
with a weight from 60 to 300 pounds such as and not limited to:
transmissions.
Hazard: Employees can be struck by load
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is installing a
safety latch in the sling chain that automatically closes the throat of
the hook.
En el taller de mecanica de Maara Corp., en el Vertedero de Fajardo, donde
los empleados
reparaban camiones, se observo una grua de puente (marca Jet, 2
Toneladas/4000lbs) sin un
cierre de seguridad instalado en el gancho de la eslinga de cadena. Los
empleados usaban la grua
de puente para subir o bajar piezas pesadas de camiones con un peso de 60
a 300 libras, tales
como y no limitado a: transmisiones.
Riesgo: Empleados pueden ser golpeados por la carga.
Entre otros metodos, un metodo factible y aceptable para corregir este
riesgo es instalar un
cierre de seguridad al gancho de la eslinga de cadena que automaticamente
cierre la garganta del
gancho.
