Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing of likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by payloader trucks in Recycling Plant. a) Worksite, Recycling Plant: Employees were in danger of being crushed by company's vehicles; on or about 7/14/11. Feasible methods of abatement include: Follow Company's Employee Workplace Safety Handbook (Page 8, Section 4 - Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - Reflective safety vests to be worn at all times (Page 14, Section 8 - Yard Safety Rules) - Be alert for backup alarms, equipment and vehicle movement - Stay clear of vehicle and equipment lanes and material handling areas where you don't belong. - Follow signal persons (flaggers) or other yard personnel's directions and warning at all times. (See Appendix A) NOTE: In addition to abatement certification, the employer is required to submit abatement documentation for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.
