Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the hazard of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic pipe
rupturing or exploding that
was being used as a pressure air line distribution system throughout the
shop at pressures in
excess of 100 p.s.i.:
(a)114 Harris Street, Grain Valley, MO 64029;
PVC plastic pipe was being used to distribute compressed air to the
workstations and to
the CNC machines.
1)Install black iron piping for the air distribution system;
2)Completely enclose all above ground portions of the plastic service in a
shatter resistant conduit or casing of sufficient strength to provide
protection from external damage and deterioration; or
3)Install approved impact resistant ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene)
pipe.
Abatement certification is required for this violation (using the
CERTIFICATION OF
CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating
that
abatement is complete must be included with your certification.  This
documentation may include,
but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the
equipment, photographic or video
evidence of abatement, or other written records.
