Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential dust explosion, deflagration and fire hazards caused by the insufficient collection of dust: Located in Production, the dust collection system was insufficient to control fugitive dust. Among feasible methods to correct the identified hazard, one method would be to provide continuous suction to minimize the escape of dust for processes where combustible dust is liberated in normal production operations per NFPA 654: Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids, Section 8.1.1.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential dust explosion, deflagration and fire hazards caused by the dust collection ducts being constructed from combustible material: Located in Production, the ventilation ducts were constructed from a combustible PVC pipe. Among feasible methods to correct the identified hazard, one method would be to construct the dust collection ducts from a non-combustible material such as sheet metal per NFPA 91: Standard for Exhaust Systems for Air Conveying of Vapors, Gases, Mists, and Noncombustible Particulate Solids, Section 4.2.1.

Among feasible methods to correct the identified hazard, one method would be to install a grounding wire at the emptying station per NFPA 654: Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids, Section 9.3.3.1
