Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by and burn hazards: a)Highway 45 South, Marion AL 36756; On or about July 7, 2011 and at times prior thereto employees were exposed to struck by and burn hazards while using an underhung monorail crane with a broken safety latch to pour molten metal in molds. The employer did not ensure frequesnt inspections had been performed by an operator or other designated person of the hoist for missing or defective equipment. Feasible means of abatement to correct this hazard include, but are not limited to; 1. Conduct frequent inspections during operations of the hoist for missing or defective equipment in accordance with ASME standards B30.10-2009, Hooks and B30.11-2010, Monorails and Underhung Cranes. 2. Repair or replace broken safety latches and ensure they meet the requirement of the manufacturer's operator manual, ASME B30.10-2009, Hooks, and ASME B30.11-2010, Monorails and Underhung Cranes.ng
