Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm, including severe burns, to employees in that employees were exposed to dust explosion, deflagration, or other fire hazards from a dust collector/air material separator being located inside the building and collecting combustible dust: a.) Dehy Packing Area-An IAC dust collector/air material separator, that collects combustible potato dust from multiple emission sources,( e.g. Bins 1 and 2) and separates combustible dust from conveying air streams, (e.g. blowers A, B, C) was located inside the building, on or about 11-15-11. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED ABATEMENT NOTE: AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD INCLUDES, FOLLOWING NFPA 61, STANDARD FOR THE PREVENTION OF FIRE AND DUST EXPLOSIONS IN AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD PROCESSING FACILITIES, 2008 EDITION, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: LOCATE THE DUST COLLECTION/AIR MATERIAL SEPARATOR SYSTEM OUTSIDE THE BUILDING AND PROVIDE SUITABLE EXPLOSION PREVENTION OR FOLLOW EXCEPTION GUIDANCE IN NFPA 61.
