Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of a lack of employee instruction in the safe operation of a vertical baler: a/ Inside of the second floor, employee(s) were not instructed in the safe work methods before assigning them to operate the unguarded, vertical baler, unknown make, model, and serial numbers. One method of abatement to correct this apparent hazard is to instruct employees to recognize the hazard of operating an unguarded vertical baler as required by ANSI Z245.5-2004, paragraph 7.1(b). DISCLAIMER: a/ The employer is not limited to the abatement method(s) suggested by OSHA. b/ The employer is responsible for selecting and implementing an effective abatement method. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND ABATEMENT VERIFICATION ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of a lack of frequent and periodic inspections of a vertical baler: a/ Inside of the second floor, frequent and periodic inspections were not performed on the unguarded vertical baler, unknown make, model, or serial numbers to ensure that all parts, component equipment, and safeguards were in safe operating condition. One method of abatement to correct this apparent hazard is to perform frequent and periodic inspections of the unguarded, vertical baler as required by ANSI Z245.5-2004, paragraph 7.1(g). DISCLAIMER: a/ The employer is not limited to the abatement method(s) suggested by OSHA. b/ The employer is responsible for selecting and implementing an effective abatement method. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND ABATEMENT VERIFICATION ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
