North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushed by hazard: a)automotive shop - where in-ground automotive lifts (no manufacturer information) such as, but not limited to, the first from the showroom was not marked with the manufacturers name, load capacity, model and serial number and had dropped approximately 2 inches in a 32 minute time period which was under load of a GMC Yukon GMT800 (weighing between 4500-5500lbs). (Reference: American National Standards Institute, Safety Requirements for the Construction, Care, and Use of Automotive Lifts, ANSI B153.1-1981, Section 5.2 "The lift shall be permanently marked to show the manufacturer's name, rated load capacity, model, and serial number") ABATEMENT NOTE: a)Permanently mark the lifts to show manufacturers name, rated load capacity, model and serial number as per ANSI B153.1-1981 Section 5.2. b)Follow manufactures recommendations to maintain and care for the lift to ensure its continued safe operations as per ANSI B153.1-1981 Section 6.1. c)Establish a periodic inspection procedure as recommended by the manufacturer to ensure the safe operation of the lift as per ANSI B153.1-1981 Section 6.3.
