General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to operating the passenger elevator that had not been inspected: At the job site, 1600 High Street, Baldwin City, Kansas, the employer did not conduct routine semi annual inspections of the personnel manlift in the grain elevator. Employees were exposed to hazards associated with failure of the manlift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to have the elevator inspected by a service company as reference in Rule 1010.6 of ASME A17.1, Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, 1996 edition. 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the above violation is completed.
