Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: At 2520 S. Sheridan, Wichita, KS, the employer allowed an employee to be lifted by the tines of a forklift without the use of a safety platform firmly secured to the lifting carriage, exposing the employee to an approximate 8 feet fall to the concrete below. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: Comply with ANSI B56.1-1975, Part III for User, Section 5, paragraph 513.A.1. through utilizations of an approved safety platform secured to the lifting carriage and/or forks with an operator at the control position of the powered industrial truck. 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(2) abatement of the above violation was verified at the time of inspection. No certification is required.
