Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to crushing hazards:
Employee(s) using a Standard 1000 air lift in the service department to
raise motorcycle trikes
approximately 30 inches from the ground floor were exposed to physical
injuries.  The Standard
1000 air lift has a maximum lifting capacity of 1000 pounds and the
motorcycle trike has a dry
weight of 1,157 pounds, this weight can increase up to 1300 pounds or more
due to motor
fluids, fuel, and additional accessories added to the motorcycle trike.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO PROVIDE AIR LIFTING EQUIPMENT CAPABLE OF
SUPPORTING THE MAXIMUM MOTORCYCLE TRIKE LOAD.
