Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Repair shop, Auto lifts #1-6: The employer exposed employees to struck- by/crush hazards as employees were allowed to operate an automotive lift without receiving training and certification per the American National Standard, ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000, Standard for Automotive Lifts - Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED Among other methods, another feasible means of abatement would be to follow the American National Standard Institute section 4 to ensure that all employees operating the automotive lift have the proper knowledge and qualifications prior to operation.
