Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards. a. Employees were exposed to crushing hazards while using and operating an aerial lift and boom truck positioned on muddy and soft ground without using sufficient mats and/or cribbing to support the outriggers. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED Among other methods, another feasible means of abatement would be to follow the Boom Truck Operator's Manual, Section 5, which states that "sturdy outrigger support pads should be used to increase the support area and load holding capability."
