Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not
furnish employment and a place of
employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or
likely
to cause death or serious
physical harm to employees:
(a)Date of Violation:11/28/11
Location:Rear of Building, Mixing Area
Condition:Where employees were using portland cement having a pH of 11 to
13, the employer
did not provide a hands-free automatic eyewash station that provides 15
minutes of
continuous flush for the quick drenching of the eyes or body in the
immediate work
area, for immediate use by employees in an emergency.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard, is to install an eyewash that
provides hands-free activation, and at least 15 minutes of automatic
flushing of the eyes and body in
accordance with American National Standard ANSI Z358.1-2004.
