Condition:Employees were exposed to potential dust explosions and fire
hazards from the ignition
of wood dust inside an enclosureless collector that was located inside the
building
approximately 15 feet from a nearby workstation, and was emptied of dust
contents
approximately once per week.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods to correct this
hazard include moving the dust
collector outside or ensuring that the collector meets the criteria for
indoor enclosureless dust collectors as
outlined in NFPA 664, Prevention of Fires and Explosions in Wood
Processing and Woodworking Facilities.
Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs,
training
certification, etc.) is required for this item.
