Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recogn ized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an amputation hazard while opera ting a log splitter. (a) Location - Neck Road Haverhill,MA: On or about 1/11/12, the employer failed to ensure that the Vermeer LS-200 Log splitter was being op erated according to the manufacturer's instructions. Among other methods, one fe asible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that all operators are provided appropriate training for the equipment as required by manufacturer's operating manual.ng
