North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards: a)plant parking lots, front of building - employees not protected from vehicular traffic using the main entrance of the plant where employees walk from parking area across the roadway. b)plant, yard area, rear of building - employees not protected from vehicular traffic, in reverse and forward mode, in the yard area of the plant from receiving to shipping where employees walk between the plant and shops with designated pedestrian and/or walk areas. Abatement Note: 1)Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to a)Designate employee pedestrian and/or cross areas. b)Develop and implement procedures for employees and drivers about the designated cross areas. c)Drivers to yield to pedestrian traffic crossing roadways.
