Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazard of crushing, falls, or traumatic
injuries due to failure
of machine components.
a) 325 Balfour Dr., Winter Park FL - an employee was exposed to a fall of
approximately 35 feet while using a vehicle mounted elevating and rotating
work
platform. The upper boom cylinders were leaking which caused slack in the
cables.
The slack in cables caused the cables to come off of the spool/pulley.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this
hazard is to: repair the vehicle-mounted elevating and rotating work
platform
according to the recommendations of a certified mechanic.
