North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: impalement hazards when employees walked/worked by unguarded vertically protruding anchor bolts. a)job site - employees were exposed to unguarded vertically protruding anchor bolts that were approximately 14 inches tall with a 0.5 inch diameter. ABATEMENT NOTE: 1)Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is attach a guard onto the top of the exposed anchor bolts. Reference:Protruding steel bars, onto and into which employees could fall, should be guarded to eliminate the hazard of impalement.
