North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of North
Carolina:  The employer did not furnish employment and a place of
employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm
to employees working under and/or near automotive lits in that employees
were exposed to
struck-by hazards:
a)facility, for the six automotive lifts - the employer did not establish
daily and/or
routine inspection procedures to identify defects, such as but not limited
to, in the
structural components including welds, in the electrical components and
wiring,
and in the lift controls including operation of the positive stop and the
lifts locks.
b)facility, for the six automotive lifts - the employer did not ensure
that a qualified
lift inspection was conducted no less than annually.
c)facility, for the six automotive lifts -  the employer did not establish
a periodic
planned maintenance procedure in accordance with the recommentations of
the lift
manufacturer.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct these
hazards
includes developing and implementing standard operating procedures for the
automotive
lifts which include daily and/or routine inspections, a preventiave
maintenance program,
and annual inspections conducted by a qualified inspector in accordance
with
manufacturers specifications and as outlined in ANSI/ALOIM:2008 Standard
for
Automotive Lifts -- Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and
Maintenance.
