North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of fire and explosion: a)facility - compressor room, the Zero blast cabinet which filtered combustible metal dust produced in the abrasive blasting operation was located inside the building and did not have appropriate explosion protection. b)facility - compressor room, the large dust collector used to filter air containing combustible metal dust from inside the blast room was located inside the building and did not have appropriate explosion protection. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods to abate these hazards is to comply with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 484, "Standard for Combustible Metals" (2009). Note: The design of fire and explosion protection should be based on a thorough hazard analysis of the facility by a person knowledgeable in process and associated fire and explosion hazards.
